NEW AMSTERDAM – FALL / WINTER '14 The iconic movie Metropolis (1927) by director Fritz Lang, deals with a futuristic urban dystopia, a city sharply divided between the working class and the city planners, the son of the city’s mastermind falls in love with a working class prophet who predicts the coming of a savior to mediate their differences. Those urban fairytail dynamics triggered Melissa Siegrist to think about a new city order. The Dutch instinct for organization, intertwined with vibrant New York street vibes, formed a new reality of stars & stripes for Siegrist. Unifying the two melting pot metropoles in a patchwork of cultures and iconic visual references.Vintage denim collected from all over the world, with subtle references to their history, formed a base for re-ordering the denim domination that is so powerful in our culture. By injecting soul and thought in to the use of the material, Melissa hopes that modern men feel comfortable, yet captivated by her inspired vision of menswear.
